Hall of Ambassadors
The throne room, under a wooden dome of the seven heavens.

Historical context
In 1492, tradition places here the meeting where Boabdil signed the surrender of Granada.
The largest room in the palace, and probably the most symbolic. The wooden ceiling above you is a cosmological map: seven levels of stars representing the seven heavens of Islamic tradition. From the throne wall, the sultan received ambassadors framed by light coming through nine niches. It was, quite literally, theatre of state.
What to notice
Count the stars in the ceiling. The composition is not random.
Practical tip
Stand in the center, look up slowly. Wait for the visitors around you to move.
FAQ
How long does a good Alhambra visit take?
Plan around three hours minimum for the full route (Alcazaba, Nasrid Palaces, Generalife). Half a day is more comfortable.
Do I really need to book tickets in advance?
Yes. The Nasrid Palaces have limited timed slots. Always check the official Alhambra ticket website for current availability and rules.
What if tickets are sold out?
You can still visit the free areas (some walking paths, gates and viewpoints). Consider a guided tour that includes ticket, or come back another day.
