⚠️ Temporary notice — Earthquakes in Granada

The Alhambra has temporarily suspended part of the public visit as a preventive measure following the earthquakes recorded in Granada on 18 August 2026.

Inspections carried out so far do not indicate significant structural damage, although localised damage has been detected in some decorative elements.

Before travelling to the Alhambra, always check the official information and the status of your ticket.

Practical guide

Parking near the Alhambra

A calm, practical overview for visitors arriving by car. The Alhambra sits on a hill above Granada, with narrow historic streets around it — a little planning avoids a lot of stress.

Recommended approach

The most reliable option is the signposted Alhambra visitor parking on the east side of the monument, close to the main entrance. Arrive early: it fills quickly on peak days and during holidays. From there the ticket office and the entrance are a short walk.

When parking near the monument is useful

Driving up makes sense if you travel with young children, older visitors, heavy bags, or if you have a night visit and prefer to avoid walking up in the dark. It also helps in extreme heat or heavy rain.

When it is better to avoid driving close

If you are staying in the historic center, leave the car in a public car park in town and walk up, take the C30/C32 minibus, or a taxi. The streets around the Alhambra and the Albaicín are restricted, narrow and confusing for first-time drivers.

Families, older visitors and limited mobility

Prefer the visitor parking closest to the entrance, keep water and sun protection ready, and allow extra time for the walk from the car to the ticket control. Accessible itineraries exist inside the monument — check current options before your visit.

Getting from the car park to the entrance

From the visitor car park, a signposted pedestrian path leads to the ticket-office area and the main entrance in a few minutes. The Nasrid Palaces are further inside the walled complex, so leave extra time between leaving the car and your timed entry slot.

Parking tips before your visit

Note the level and row where you leave the car, take water and sun protection for the walk, keep your entry time in mind rather than your arrival time, and have a backup city car park in mind for busy mornings.

Check official access rules

Traffic zones, resident-only streets and monument access rules can change. Always confirm the current rules on the official Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife website before driving up.

If you arrive by car, decide in advance whether to park near the monument or leave your vehicle in Granada and go up by bus or taxi. On busy days, allow extra time and check opening hours, fees and access restrictions before leaving.

Frequently asked questions

Is there parking at the Alhambra?+

Yes, there is a visitor car park on the east side, near the main entrance. It is the most convenient option if you are driving.

Should I drive up to the Alhambra?+

Only if it clearly helps: young kids, older visitors, night visit, heavy luggage or difficult weather. Otherwise leaving the car in the city and walking or taking the minibus is easier.

Can I park in the Albaicín?+

The Albaicín has narrow, restricted streets. Use a public car park in the lower city and walk or take a taxi.

Is parking free?+

Public parking near the Alhambra is paid. Prices change; check the current rate on site or officially before your visit.

What if the car park is full?+

Try a city car park lower down and use the C30/C32 minibus or a taxi to reach the entrance.

Where is the entrance from the parking?+

The main visitor entrance and ticket control are a short signposted walk from the car park on the east side.

Where is the best place to park for the Alhambra?+

The signposted visitor car park on the east side is the closest and simplest option. If it is full or you are staying downtown, a public car park in Granada plus the C30/C32 minibus works well.

How far is the parking from the Nasrid Palaces?+

The car park is a few minutes on foot from the main entrance, and the Nasrid Palaces are further inside the complex. Allow a comfortable margin before your timed slot.

Is Alhambra parking suitable for rental cars?+

Yes. The visitor car park is a normal signposted car park; the streets to avoid are the narrow, restricted ones in the Albaicín and the historic centre.
