On foot
The classic route climbs the Cuesta de Gomérez from Plaza Nueva, through the wooded Alhambra forest, to the main entrance. It is beautiful and takes 20–30 minutes uphill for most walkers. Wear proper shoes and bring water in warm months.
Minibus or taxi
The C30 and C32 minibuses connect the city centre with the Alhambra ticket office area. Taxis are inexpensive within Granada and drop you close to the main entrance. Both save the uphill walk.
By car and parking
Signposted visitor parking sits on the east side, close to the entrance. Arrive early on peak days. Streets around the monument and the Albaicín are narrow and restricted — see our full parking guide before driving up.
Guided visit
Many guided tours include entrance tickets and start close to the monument. This is a good option if tickets sold out on your dates or if you want expert context on the Nasrid palaces.
Best option by visitor type
Families with young kids, older visitors and anyone with limited mobility usually prefer taxi or minibus, or driving to the visitor parking. First-time visitors with a normal fitness level often love walking up through the forest. In summer heat, avoid climbing at midday: go early or late in the day.
Practical mistakes to avoid
Don’t drive into the Albaicín or the historic centre without a permit. Don’t leave the walk up for the last 15 minutes before your entry slot — the Nasrid Palaces entry time is strict. Don’t underestimate the size of the site: comfortable shoes matter.
Confirm with the official source
Opening rules, ticket conditions and access restrictions can change. Always check the official Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife before your visit.
