Court of the Myrtles

A long reflecting pool framed by myrtle hedges and the Comares Tower.

Court of the Myrtles

Historical context

The court leads to the Hall of the Boat and the Hall of Ambassadors, at the heart of state ceremonial.

Water was luxury and theology. This long pool cools the air, doubles the sky and turns the massive Comares Tower into something weightless in the reflection. Take one photograph from the narrow end, then put the phone away and just look.

What to notice

Water is dead calm on purpose — the pool is a mirror, not a fountain.

Practical tip

Best photograph: crouch low at the narrow end. Reflection lines double the architecture.

FAQ

How long does a good Alhambra visit take?

Plan around three hours minimum for the full route (Alcazaba, Nasrid Palaces, Generalife). Half a day is more comfortable.

Do I really need to book tickets in advance?

Yes. The Nasrid Palaces have limited timed slots. Always check the official Alhambra ticket website for current availability and rules.

What if tickets are sold out?

You can still visit the free areas (some walking paths, gates and viewpoints). Consider a guided tour that includes ticket, or come back another day.
